A new article in The New York Times outlines the changing landscape of philanthropy due to the increased giving of women. While recognizing that there is still work to be done to combat the sexism and racism these women face, the facts are very encouraging as women support different causes and are more likely to center the issues of women and girls in their giving.
“Women are more visible in philanthropy today because of the women who have been fighting for a seat at every table, across every industry, for decades.”
Dr. Priscilla Chan, co-founder of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative
The article also recognizes the growth of women’s funding groups stating, “two decades ago the Women’s Donor Network had 80 members and now has 270, while the Women’s Funding Network has grown from 20 to 120 over several decades and now invests $420 million annually in gender equity.”
