Upcoming Forum on Funder Recommendations to the US Census Bureau

The census doesn’t end when the counting stops. 2020 Census work is ongoing and 2030 planning is well underway. If we want the Census Bureau to better center equity in the development of policies and operations, we must leverage philanthropy’s collective voice throughout the decade. If we want the Bureau to better center historically undercounted communities in the development of policies and operations, we must support and resource our practitioner partners well in advance of these decisions.

For these reasons, The Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation (FCCP) has released A Blueprint for Philanthropic Census Engagement. This resource includes Census Bureau milestones and concrete examples of ways funders can engage and invest in census work throughout the decade.

The Democracy Funders Collaborative Census Subgroup and FCCP’s Funders Census Initiative (FCI), are offering a forum on observations and recommendations from philanthropy about Census Bureau operations. Participants will hear initial findings and recommendations on strategies and implementation issues ranging from LUCA and hiring to the communications campaign and partnership programs. Participants will have an opportunity to share — verbally and in writing — what worked, what can be improved for the 2030 Census and other surveys, and recommendations to inform the Bureau’s ongoing engagement with philanthropy.
