Update from Capitol Hill
Earlier this week, the House of Representatives approved its budget resolution on a 217-216 vote. All Democrats and one Republican voted against it. This vote marked the beginning of the budget reconciliation process and will instruct various House committees to find massive spending cuts within their jurisdictions. While key provisions have not been drafted in detail, we do expect that the resolution, once operationalized by the committees, would amount to significant cuts to Medicaid in particular — which is essential to women’s health and economic security — as well as many other critical programs that serve women and families.
